Our involvement in the conservation of wall paintings dates to the great training worksites directed by the Istituto Centrale di Restauro in the Basilica of Assisi in the 1970s and 1980s. The group’s long experience in mural paintings dating from the 1st to the 20th centuries includes treatment of entire decorative cycles, involving a wide variety of artistic techniques and frequently combined with other materials such as marble, mosaics, gilded metal, frames, stucco reliefs and statues and imitation marble. We are constantly improving our ability to detect and interpret the artistic techniques and procedures used to produce wall paintings and to develop new systems to map them in collaboration with experts in surveying and digital mapping.
