Who we are and what we do

ART: Appreciate, Research, Treat

CBC, one of the best known and most highly respected conservation and restoration companies in Italy, was founded 24 January 1977 by ten graduates of the Istituto Centrale per il Restauro at a moment when conservation was being transformed from an artisanal activity into a modern scientific discipline.

The company was created with the idea of bringing together a group of specialised conservators, each with their individual expertise, to work together to face with maximum efficiency whatever professional challenges came our way. Over the years we have maintained a flexible structure and approach in order to adapt rapidly both to innovation in our field and to evolve to fit the ever-changing organisational needs of a modern company.

With this spirit we have taken on research and technical studies, undertaken projects involving large monuments and entire collections as well as small paintings precious to a single family, all without ever relinquishing care, curiosity or attention to the smallest detail.

We have constantly measured ourselves against the many new developments in our field, including innovations in IT and documentation, and at the same time upgraded our organisational structure to handle efficiently everything from large worksites to single objects.

Conservation and restoration services provided for our clients

What we can do for you

We have been working for many years on the conservation, maintenance and restoration of artworks and objects, dealing with everything from purely practical problems to research and technical studies and up to large scale project planning.

Conservation and Restoration

We work on wall paintings and works on canvas, panel, paper, leather, glass and stucco, painted sculpture, stone, monuments and historical buildings with all their furnishings, modern and contemporary artworks and works in mixed media. We offer to Museums and other institutions, private individuals and conservators, a specialised service in conservation of supports for works on canvas, paper and leather, including extra-large formats. We work both in Italy and abroad.

Services for the private sector

We have a section dedicated specifically to the needs of private clients, including emergency treatments for accidental damage, assistance in dealings with Government bodies, damage assessment or assistance in the packing and transport of works. We bring the same care and enthusiasm to works in private collections, in collections of private institutions or religious foundations and objects which have purely sentimental value.

Preventative conservation

We have always been interested in preventative care and the complex interaction between objects and their environment. We have carried out projects involving entire museum collections drawing on standards and protocols developed by the most important national and internal bodies, in particular ICCROM. We have built up extensive experience in carrying out or assisting with the mounting of exhibitions, packing and moving objects and protective structures.
