From the start the Cooperative has been active in research, sometimes as a practical response to the special requirements of a treatment, at other times purely to advance our understanding. We have worked in collaboration with universities, research institutes, with other conservators and with specialists in quite different areas. Such collaborations, with the need to create mutual understanding, have always been important to us for professional growth. Many treatments have become the starting point for specialized studies, especially in the field of artistic techniques, and our staff have produced numerous exhibitions, conference papers, and contributions to exhibitions and catalogues, specialist journals and many other publications. The wide ranging and varied experiences accumulated over the years by our members have often been presented in training programs at universities, in specialist institutes or in workshops held for many public or private organizations.
